Last day of school for our Milwaukee Public School students!

June 06, 2017

Hi Friends,

Summer is nearly upon us and I’m excited to say that today is the last day of school for our Milwaukee Public School students! On behalf of the Milwaukee Succeeds family, we would like to congratulate Dr. Darienne Driver on a successful school year and take a moment to thank all of the teachers in our community for your work that goes above and beyond the classroom. With your hard work, the Milwaukee Succeeds vision will become a reality: Success for every child, in every classroom, cradle to career. We are making our community greater together. Thank you for all that you do!

I'd like to share two articles with you today. There was a wonderful Op Ed by Dr. Driver on Equity in our community and an article this week about how UWM, MPS & MATC Come Together To Improve Student Success in Milwaukee. Please take a moment and scroll down to read more about each below.

See you soon,

Danae

In one of the most segregated cities in the United States, decades of racially and socioeconomically inequitable practices have resulted in glaring opportunity gaps for our schools. District leaders, including myself, view addressing these gaps as our responsibility. Equity for all is everyone's business.

As the superintendent of schools, I have helped the district take a hard look at how we allocate resources, including money, time, and human capital. Viewing all of our decisions through a lens of equity is critical. Last year, we created an equity commission, composed of educators, school psychologists, and community members, to oversee decision making on education and operational practices.
