Hi Friends,
I’m excited about the news I have to share with you this week!

Milwaukee Succeeds welcomes Kiley Kurz as their new Administrative Assistant. Kiley’s background is in the education nonprofit world previously with STEM Forward as Program Coordinator. A proud product of MPS and
UW-Milwaukee, Kiley has a passion for the Milwaukee community and providing every student a step-up. Kiley looks forward to working together with Milwaukee Succeeds and its partners in creating tomorrow’s education ready generation.

Please be sure to change your contact information for Milwaukee Succeeds. Kiley can be reached at kkurz@milwaukeesucceeds.org or 414.336.7036.

Also, you should have already received an email from our Impact Manager, Lorna Dilley, giving you a heads-up about our Partnership’s third year of participation in a national evaluation being conducted by Equal Measure, a nonprofit evaluation firm based in Philadelphia. And by now, you should have also received the direct email from Equal Measure with the link to that survey. I’m mentioning it here because I want to strongly encourage all of you to complete it!

This is a national evaluation of cradle-to-career communities to understand how the type of work we’re doing is developing across the country – how communities build civic infrastructure to improve youth outcomes. We are one of nearly 20 partnerships across the US participating in this evaluation.

The results will help us better understand the perspectives and experiences of our array of partners, and how to keep moving forward as we build a partnership striving towards systemic change. We have used results from previous surveys to help guide strategy and refine our focus areas. We have particularly strengthened our efforts around community engagement and better use of data. There is still much work to be done, and your participation will help ensure we have input from across our Partnership to continue this work.

The survey should have arrived from C2Csurvey@equalmeasure.org with the subject “2017 Cradle-to-Career Partner Survey: Link Enclosed.” So please check your Inbox!

We very much appreciate you taking 15 minutes to provide your feedback on this collective impact effort in Milwaukee. Your individual responses will be confidential and will not be seen by anyone outside of the Equal Measure evaluation team.

Thank you for your commitment to improving outcomes for children and youth in our community.

Finally, I want to tell you about an exciting opportunity funded by Daniel T. Soref Charitable Foundation. Growing Minds has partnered with Milwaukee Succeeds to train non-profit leaders to bring mindful awareness skills into their organizations. Growing Minds will train leaders in mindful awareness skills in order to:

  • Build safer, more trusting relationships
  • Increase positivity in the non-profit culture
  • Decrease feelings of staff burn out
  • Develop a common language for each organization for social and emotional communication and well-being
  • Develop a common language all non-profits in Milwaukee can use for social and emotional communication and well-being with all our youth.
Outcomes we will measure include:
  • Integration of “purposeful pauses” in the work day, including before and after meetings so participants are more open-minded and less judgmental
  • Creation of a kinder and more positive work environment through kindness strategies, self-compassion training and gratitude practices
  • Incorporation of mindful pauses into their programs with youth
  • Ability to feel more connected in conversations with colleagues through increased intentionality and reduced reactivity
  • Possible incorporation of mindful pauses into their programs with youth after the class is completed
  • Effectiveness of Growing Minds training
  • Effectiveness of the tools supplied
  • Qualitative stories of how mindfulness has helped their personal and professional lives.

If you’re interested in this training, please contact your Goal Manager or Kiley Kurz at kkurz@milwaukeesucceeds.org or 414.336.7036.

See you soon,

Danae
