Design Your Future Spotlight - Neighborhood News Service

In a conversation with Milwaukee Succeeds Executive Director Danae Davis, reporter Sam Woods highlights how and why our organization is prioritizing the educational trajectory of Black male youth.

“We are taking an approach rooted in ‘targeted universalism,’ which is basically the idea that if you focus on those most marginalized you end up benefiting everyone” said Davis. This approach is supported by other community leaders including David Emmanuelle Castillo of Milwaukee Public Schools’ Black and Latino Male Achievement Program.

But Milwaukee Succeeds is pushing this priority a step further. Not only are we prioritizing Black male educational achievement, we are placing the experience of young people at the forefront of HOW school systems should change.

Milwaukee Succeeds will be giving out a $10,000 grants to select ideas for school change created for, and by, students of color. We will be collecting idea proposals until January 8, 2021.
